RESEARCH ACTIVITY @ WAFI group, IIT, CNR
Our goal is to provide an open access to rich and complete data sets, for machines and humans alike. While a sister activity focuses on humans, Open Data & Semantic Web researches machine-oriented features, granting experts, developers and software agents query, automatic analysis and reasoning capabilities. We mainly leverage the Semantic Web technologies to create web portals enabling an open and public access to data that enhance citizens and foster the growth of new open initiatives.
Linked Data is the main technology we used for publishing data within the Semantic Web. Moreover, we employ the major vocabularies and ontologies for the design and modelling of data set, SPARQL for querying data and the main data format such as RDF, N-triple, JSON-LD for exporting them.

Datasets

Clavius is a a Web platform using current technologies of computational linguistics, knowledge engineering, digital philology, Web of Data and information visualization. It has a Linked Open Data set containing letters, places and persons related to the works and the correspondence of the astronomer Christophorus Clavius.

DoGi represents one of the main online consulted source of information for articles published on italian juridical journals. It contains bibliographic information, abstracts, summaries and other manually selected data about more than 400 paper prints and electronic journal articles.

Applications

The atlas of DBpedia: a map-like representation of DBpedia developed using the Linked Data maps approach.

The atlas of LinkedMDB: a map-like representation of LinkedMDB developed using the Linked Data maps approach.

Lod Cloud: an interative visualization of the Linked Open Data (LOD) Cloud represented as a universe of planet. Search feature, developed using the CKAN.net API, allows to find a dataset in the LOD cloud.

SpaceTime: a tool for exploring DBpedia using the space and time dimension through a map and a timeline.

Meteo: a D3.js visualization using the open data of Lamma published on OpenToscana.

Research

State of the Art: a collection of scientific articles, applications and tools about the visualization, exploration and navigation of Linked Data sets.

Experiments

DBpedia Lookup: a lookup service for entities inside DBpedia. Inserting a text parameter and optionally class and hits you can get a JSON result file.

DBpedia Ontology: a simple service that converts the ontology published as HTML on the official web site in JSON format.

Some prototype applications for navigating DBpedia:

LD Browser: a prototype browser for navigating Linked Data sets.
